I have been practicing in the field of psychology for more than 18 years. As a counselling psychologist, my original specialisation was in sexual health and my Master’s thesis was in Discursive Psychology (how reality is constructed through language). Over the years my work has branched out to relationship therapy, severe illness and injury counselling, and trauma related counselling. I no longer consider sex therapy, relationship therapy, or trauma debriefing as specialised fields: all therapy seems to inevitably relate to what we desire, how we have developed in relationship to others, and how various forms of trauma have influenced our lives (especially the trauma of love gone wrong).

At this stage of my career, I have worked with almost every aspect of human struggle and I have developed an increasing disdain for diagnostic thinking in relation to the struggles that we face. I have, therefore, turned to philosophy and the field of phenomenology in order to carve out a method of Existential Phenomenology as a therapy practice. I am currently busy with a PhD in Philosophy & Psychoanalysis through the Global Centre for Advanced Studies (GCAS). My thesis looks at a critical comparison of Secular Buddhist methods with Existential Phenomenology in developing a Contemplative Existential Psychoanalysis.  Using this developing method, I offer retreat style therapy from the Centre for Purposeful Living (the home of my private practice), The Buddhist Retreat Centre and Emoyeni.

I currently live in Durban, Kwazulu-Natal, on the east coast of Southern Africa. I am, however, available for online therapy. I currently have clients in France, Spain, Portugal, and the United Kingdom.

Sharing my passion with my life partner, Fiona Brittion, we have set up a retreat centre (and NPO supporting the local community) that offers:

  • Individual Therapy.
  • Movement therapy such as yoga.
  • Regular philosophy and meditation workshops.
  • Retreat style live-in therapy.
  • The Centre has also been host to sex-positive public performances such as Shibari, and live gigs with talents likes Guy Buttery, Nibs Van Der Spuy and the Gypsy Strings.
